About

“Nicola Montfort’s Rosalinde shines with a vocal range from deep mezzo to radiant soprano, particularly captivating in the Hungarian Csárdás. The Csárdás becomes the highlight of the evening: the audience collectively holds its breath as Montfort unfolds her virtuoso coloratura, before erupting into minutes of standing ovation.” - Online Merker

Nicola Montfort is a lyric-dramatic soprano and photographer. Since her debut as Donna Anna in Mozart’s Don Giovanni in Weimar (2023), she has established herself in a diverse repertoire ranging from Mozart’s Elettra in Idomeneo to originating the role of the humanoid AI KORA in Stanislav Rosenberg’s recent opera Die Rückkehr aus Davos. Under Rosenberg’s baton, she also performed Richard Strauss’s Four Last Songs in Copenhagen in 2025.

Montfort began her training in piano, saxophone, singing, and acting at the age of five, though she discovered her operatic potential only at eighteen. After several years of jazz and musical-theatre studies, she commenced classical vocal training with Edmund Brownless at the Hoch Conservatory in Frankfurt, before relocating to Vienna to study with her long-time teacher Professor Sebastian Vittucci (MDW/MuK). Following her transition from mezzo-soprano to soprano, she continued her development with KS Linda Watson and ultimately refined her technique under Carol Blaickner-Mayo, who remains her vocal coach and mentor.

Alongside her musical studies, Montfort’s long-standing passion for photography evolved into a successful parallel career. Her work for brands such as Speedo and Regatta Great Outdoors enabled her to combine her love of the outdoors with her fine-art visual practice — a recurring theme in her photographic portfolio. Her photography has been commissioned and published by outlets including Good Housekeeping UK, Cosmopolitan UK, Marie Claire Australia, Outdoor Swimmer Magazine, and The Guardian, among others.

Montfort has received second prize in the international Mozart competition “Dusek,” has been a finalist in the “Solistenpodium” competition, and a semi finalist in the international “Vincerò” competition. In addition to working with James Pearson (Vienna State Opera) as her repertoire coach, she’s participated in masterclasses with KS Vesselina Kasarova, Damon Nestor Ploumis, Eva Lind, Michael Hampe, Marijana Mijanović, Kurt Widmer and Claudia Visca, among others.
